How To Use Music To Increase Your Productivity

Have you ever linked your current state of mind to a piece of music that you’re listening to? Ever noticed that when you’re angry or happy and you listen to music that matches your current state, you feel angrier or happier? More thoughts of a similar nature to what got you into that state keep appearing in your mind. Helping to keep building up the chemically balanced emotional charge in your mind. Do you think this is just a coincidence?

How Does Music Influence Our Minds?

Music has more than one purpose in 2022. It can take you down to one of your darkest days. This is based on what thoughts you have projected onto that piece of music and what state of mind you were in when listening to it previously. Or, lift you to a level of ecstasy you’ve never experienced before in your life. The power that we can tap into when listening to music and using it to our advantage, I believe is huge. We can use music to help us speed up personal growth and development too.

Here are some ways we can use music to give ourselves a boost!

  • Woken up on the wrong side of the bed? Listen to happy, upbeat music to help clear negative unwanted thoughts at the start of your day.
  • Need to get pumped ready to beat your PB at the gym but feel sluggish and tired? Put on some pumped up EDM, something with a prominent rhythm.
  • Struggling with your mental health today, feeling like you’ve got too much on your shoulder right now? Listen to some relaxing chilled beats to help de-clutter your mind fog. Begin looking at the facts, not what the chimp part of your brain is losing its shit about inside which I’ll add is nearly always wrong about too.

Music = Productivity

So how do we get the most out of the music we listen to help us boost our daily productivity? Well, firstly we need to know if we’re listening to the right genre to achieve the productivity we want. For example, if you want to practise meditation as part of your morning routine, you’d be wise to steer away from EDM and other dance genres. This is because this type of music will provoke types of thoughts, emotions and actions that are not in line with the state of mind you’ll require ready for meditation.

If you are ready to begin speed reading a 400-page book you’ve been meaning to read for months. I’d suggest choosing something calming and soft to the ear enabling enhanced focus ready for reading. This allows your brain not to become distracted but put you in a happy state of mind releasing just enough dopamine to keep you intrigued and motivated to smash through it all in one sitting if you wish to do so.

Wanted to get that research paper boxed off but can’t find the right vibe to get you focused for long enough? Try dubbing down to some trance music. Trance music can take your mind on a long journey with an upbeat but non-distracting vibe. It can softly empower you to become more productive and achieve more.

Summary

Music can lead our minds down many different paths, all of which we can choose from. Depending on what state of mind we listened to a song last will determine what thoughts occur when we next listen to that song, then determining our mood moving forward. Try and use music to your advantage, if you’re feeling down, play upbeat music to release dopamine, the feel-good factor in your brain. If you need a quick pump before the gym but have no pre-workout left, listen to EDM or my favourite Adagio For Strings as this will give you the desired effect you’re looking for. The moral of the story is that music has the cure for more than just mood improvement and can also help with,

  • Stress relief
  • Pain relief
  • Recovering from emotional trauma
  • Problem-solving
  • Improving mental health
